Wooden or resin clogs: what's the difference
When you think of a clog, you probably picture a wooden base. It's the classic clog. But today many clogs have a different base: resin.
At Tuilus we make both. Here's how they differ, so you can choose the one that really suits you.

Left, Campiña, with a wooden base. Right, Bolonia, with a resin base.
A bit of history
The clog began as work footwear: a carved wooden sole that kept out the cold and damp from the ground. Over the years it moved from the fields to the street and became a classic. The shape has stayed the same: a firm base, a leather upper and visible studs. What has changed is the material of the base.
Wooden clogs: the classic
Wood has charm. It's a noble material with a natural grain, and every base is slightly different. It's the choice if you want the most traditional clog.
Good to know:
- It's heavier than resin.
- It's louder when you walk. The classic clip-clop.
- Damp and temperature changes affect it, and cracks can appear over time. It needs some care, and it's best to avoid puddles.
At Tuilus, our wooden clog is Campiña, with interchangeable ribbons so you can change your look with the same pair.
Resin clogs: for every day
All our other clogs have a resin base. We chose it so you can wear your clogs all day, every day:
- It's lighter. You'll notice it at the end of the day.
- It's quieter when you walk.
- It doesn't crack.
- It keeps the classic shape: a firm base, studs and a leather upper. The look of the traditional clog.
On top of the base there's a cushioned gel-effect insole.
